Continuing Education Class Description
This continuing education basic blueprint reading [BBR] class introduces attendeefs] to the
fundamentals of understanding design drawings and reading construction blueprints.
Attendee(s] will review prints from the building machining systems, carpentry,
environmental controls and plans from licensed professions such as architects, engineers
and interior designers. This variety of technical specialization will prepare attendee(s) for
further baseline approach to interact with project stakeholders, clients, building owners
and real estate investors involved in development projects, renovations, restorations,
upgrades and improvements in structural conditions and improve their construction and
real estate careers (such as administrators, entrepreneurs, trades, real estate salespersons
and brokers).
Instructional Philosophy
The organization of this BBR class is for attendee(s) to be cooperative in this learning
environment. This format allows for sharing and learning between attendee(s) and
instructor. Comprehend and participate in lecture activities during class is expected for
completion for the one (1) day BBR lecture.
Blueprint Reading Goals
Identify structural framing components and elements on a construction blueprint
Understand the basic structural members used to build a structure
Interpret various dimensions and notes used on construction blueprints
Interpret various views used on construction blueprints
Identify and analyze basic construction symbol notations
Understand design drawing's notes, symbols, and dimensions
Morning session: 9:30 am to 12:45 pm - 3 hours
Introduction to the Basic Blueprint Reading (BBR) class lecture - 9:30 - 10:30 am 1 hour
Identify structural framing components and elements on a construction blueprint

Class break 10:30 - 10:45 am - 15 minutes
Understand the basic structural members used to build a structure 10:45-12:45pm 2 hours
Interpret various dimensions and notes used on construction blueprints
Class lunch break 12:45 am - 1:30 pm 45 minutes
Afternoon session: 1:30 pm to 6:00 pm - 4.5 hours
Interpret various views used on construction blueprints 1:30 pm to 2:30 pm - 1 hour
Identify and analyze basic construction symbol notations 2:30 pm to 3:45 pm - 1.5 hours
Class break 3:45pm- 4:00pm - 15 minutes
Understand design drawing's notes, symbols, and dimensions 4:00 to 5:30pm - 1.5 hours
Questions and answers from the lectures with the attendees 5;30 pm to 6:00pm - hour
Total BBR lecture one (1) day duration of 7.5 hours of continuing education credits.

BBR handouts will be provided during the morning and afternoon session of the lecture
